The picture above is of my view from my breakfast spot this morning. I’m drinking my coffee at the counter and watching snow lightly fall outside—our first accumulating snowfall of the season. It seems fitting that the first real snowfall (one of my favorite moments all year) is happening on the morning of my favorite holiday.

The small moments like this—waking up on your favorite holiday to snow lightly falling—make me realize how truly wonderful and blessed this life can be. And maybe it’s because it’s Thanksgiving, but I was suddenly aware of all I have to be thankful for this morning: my sweet nephew, Baby L; my brothers, sisters, and incredible parents; J, S, A and T, without whom I wouldn’t be as sane—or as crazy—as I am today; the comfort and peace I find in my faith in God; the irreplaceable friendships I made through my sorority in college; the crazy cat who runs through our apartment at odd hours of the night, but snuggles me when I’m cold and sick; the fact that I have a good job and a roof over my head in a city I love.

My year-long blogging adventure is nowhere near over (but we’re more than halfway there!), but taking a daily look at the happy moments in my life has showed me how beautiful and heartwarming it is—no matter how ugly and heartbreaking it can seem.

This holiday season, I hope you can do the same.
